Travel through the Ovens, King, Buckland and Kiewa Valleys, visit the historic towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah, and experience breathtaking mountain landscapes at Mt Buffalo National Park and Falls Creek Alpine Village. Day 1 – Journey to Bright via the King Valley
Sit back and enjoy the changing scenery as we travel through regional Victoria towards the High Country. Along the way we visit the historic Cheviot Tunnel near Yea before continuing through Mansfield and into the picturesque King Valley. Travelling through scenic farming districts and charming country towns, we make our way to Bright, nestled on the banks of the Ovens River and surrounded by magnificent mountain landscapes. Bright will be our home for the next four nights.
Day 2 – Bright, Wandiligong & Mt Buffalo National Park
Today we explore Bright and the surrounding valleys, rich in both natural beauty and gold rush history. We visit the historic township of Wandiligong before travelling along the scenic Great Alpine Road to Harrietville, located at the foot of Mt Hotham. This afternoon we venture into Mt Buffalo National Park, one of Victoria’s most iconic alpine destinations, where spectacular lookouts, Lake Catani and stunning mountain scenery await.
Day 3 – Yackandandah, Beechworth & High Country Heritage
Our day begins with a visit to the historic gold mining town of Yackandandah, where beautifully preserved buildings and a relaxed country atmosphere reflect the area’s rich heritage. We then continue to Beechworth, one of Australia’s best-preserved gold rush towns, with time to explore and learn about its fascinating history. Later, we visit Pepo Farms, where we gain an insight into their unique pumpkin seed products and innovative local farming practices before returning to Bright.
Day 4 – Kiewa Valley, Mt Beauty & Falls Creek
A highlight of the tour, today’s journey takes us through the spectacular Kiewa Valley via Tawonga Gap, where panoramic views stretch across the High Country to Mt Bogong. We visit Mt Beauty and Bogong Village before ascending to Falls Creek Alpine Village. Enjoy magnificent alpine scenery, the impressive Rocky Valley Dam and the natural beauty of the Alpine National Park. Weather and road conditions permitting, we also visit historic Wallace’s Hut, one of the oldest surviving mountain huts in the Victorian Alps.
Day 5 – Eldorado Dredge & Journey Home
After breakfast we farewell Bright and begin our journey home. Along the way we visit the historic Eldorado Dredge, a remarkable reminder of the region’s gold mining past and one of the largest surviving dredges of its kind in Australia. We then continue south through Victoria’s countryside before arriving home with wonderful memories of the Victorian High Country.
