Day 1 – Journey to Mildura
Relax and enjoy the changing scenery as we travel through Victoria’s picturesque north-west, passing charming country towns and classic Mallee landscapes. After lunch along the way, we arrive in Mildura, our home for the next four nights. Settle into your accommodation before joining your fellow travellers for a delicious welcome dinner.
Day 2 – Discover Mildura & Cruise the Murray River
Today we uncover the fascinating history of Mildura and the pioneering vision of the Chaffey Brothers, whose irrigation schemes transformed this region into a thriving oasis. Travel through orchard and wine-growing districts, visit local landmarks, and learn about the area’s rich heritage before boarding the historic PS Melbourne for a leisurely afternoon cruise on the mighty Murray River, including passage through Lock 11.
Day 3 – Wentworth, River History & Orange World
Our day begins in the historic river town of Wentworth, where the Murray and Darling Rivers meet. Explore the Old Wentworth Gaol, discover local landmarks and take in the unique beauty of the Perry Sandhills. Back in Mildura, we visit Orange World, where a guided tour through a working citrus orchard provides a fascinating insight into one of the region’s most important industries.
Day 4 – Gardens, Heritage & Olive Count
Enjoy a leisurely day exploring some of Mildura’s most loved attractions. Wander through the beautiful Australian Inland Botanic Gardens, visit the historic Rio Vista Homestead, once home to the Chaffey family, and spend the afternoon at Varapodio Olive Estate, learning about olive production and browsing a range of locally made products.
Day 5 – Farewell Mildura
After breakfast we farewell Mildura and begin our journey home through the heart of regional Victoria. Sit back, relax and enjoy the changing countryside as we travel through charming rural towns before arriving back in Melbourne with wonderful memories of the Sunraysia region.
