Discover the rugged beauty, rich history and remarkable landscapes of South Australia on this memorable 7-day tour to the Flinders Ranges. Travelling through Mildura, the South Australian Riverland and historic outback towns, this journey is based for three nights in Port Augusta while exploring the dramatic scenery and unique attractions of the Flinders Ranges region. Highlights include the historic Pichi Richi Railway, Hawker, Blinman, Mt Remarkable National Park, the Clare and Barossa regions, Coorong National Park, Robe and Mount Gambier, making this a wonderfully varied journey through South Australia’s outback, riverland and coastal landscapes.
Day 1 – Western Victoria & Mildura
Travel north through Central Victoria, passing historic gold mining towns and classic Mallee landscapes on our way to Mildura. After a comfortable day of travel, we arrive at our overnight accommodation and enjoy dinner with our fellow travellers.
Day 2 – Riverland, Burra & Port Augusta
This morning we farewell Mildura and travel into South Australia through the Riverland region. We continue via historic Burra and the Mount Lofty Ranges before arriving in Port Augusta, our base for the next three nights. Settle into your accommodation and enjoy dinner at the motel restaurant.
Day 3 – Pichi Richi Railway & Quorn
A highlight of the tour, today we enjoy a memorable journey aboard the historic Pichi Richi Railway. Travel through the scenic Pichi Richi Pass, taking in the ancient landscapes of the Flinders Ranges from beautifully restored heritage carriages. After the train journey, enjoy time to explore the historic township of Quorn before returning to Port Augusta.
Day 4 – Flinders Ranges, Hawker & Blinman
Today we explore the spectacular Flinders Ranges region, travelling through dramatic outback scenery and historic townships. Visit Hawker and the Jeff Morgan Art Gallery, home to the impressive Wilpena Panorama, before continuing past striking ranges and landscapes to the old copper mining town of Blinman. After time to explore and enjoy lunch, we return to Port Augusta for another relaxed evening.
Day 5 – Mt Remarkable, Clare Valley & Murray Bridge
Farewell Port Augusta as we travel south through Mt Remarkable National Park and the historic town of Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. We continue through the Clare Valley and Barossa region before travelling on to Murray Bridge for our overnight stay. This evening, enjoy dinner at the motel restaurant.
Day 6 – Coorong National Park, Robe & Mount Gambier
Today we travel through the remarkable Coorong National Park, one of Australia’s most significant wetland environments and an important haven for birdlife. We continue to the historic seaside town of Robe before travelling through Beachport and Millicent to Mount Gambier. This afternoon we visit the Blue Lake and Valley Lake before settling in for our overnight stay.
Day 7 – Port Fairy, Warrnambool & Home
After breakfast we farewell Mount Gambier and travel back into Victoria, stopping in the historic fishing village of Port Fairy. We continue through Warrnambool, Colac and Geelong before arriving home with wonderful memories of South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, Riverland and coastal regions.
