Day 1 – Journey to Merimbula
Travel through the picturesque Gippsland region, passing through the Latrobe Valley and East Gippsland before crossing into New South Wales. After lunch in Lakes Entrance and a scenic drive along the Princes Highway, we arrive in Merimbula, our home for the next four nights. Settle into your accommodation before joining your fellow travellers for dinner.
Day 2 – Discover Merimbula & Tathra
Today we explore the highlights of Merimbula and the surrounding Sapphire Coast. Visit Merimbula Main Beach, Short Point and the shores of Merimbula Lake, where stunning coastal views showcase the beauty of the region. We then travel to the seaside village of Tathra to view its historic wharf and take in spectacular ocean vistas before returning to Merimbula. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon with free time to explore the town, browse the shops or simply unwind.
Day 3 – Whale Watching, Eden & Twofold Bay
A highlight of the tour awaits as we join a memorable whale watching cruise along the Sapphire Coast. During the migration season, humpback whales can often be seen breaching and playing in these waters, creating an unforgettable experience. We also visit the historic port town of Eden, picturesque Boydtown, and Apex Park Lookout for magnificent views across Twofold Bay. Before returning to Merimbula, we visit beautiful Pambula Beach.
Day 4 – Central Tilba, Bermagui & Bega
Travel north along the Sapphire Coast to explore some of the region’s most charming towns and villages. Wander through the beautifully preserved heritage village of Central Tilba, browse local shops and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this National Trust-listed town. We continue to the fishing village of Bermagui before visiting the famous Bega Cheese Heritage Centre, where we learn about the history of one of Australia’s best-known dairy regions and enjoy cheese tastings.
Day 5 – Farewell Merimbula
After breakfast we farewell Merimbula and begin our journey home through East Gippsland. Following lunch in Bairnsdale and a visit to the remarkable St Mary’s Church, famous for its stunning murals, we continue home with wonderful memories of the Sapphire Coast.
